i feel good about the penny

Many years ago (I think it was 1988), I recall an argument between myself and jmc about whether the penny should be dumped. I think jmc got the better of me at the time, but now the opportunity to strike back with a devastating rejoinder has arrived. Sure, it's an argument from authority, but I feel confident that jmc will be speechless.

I believe you argued that the little man would get screwed if we eliminated the penny, and I counter-argued that merchants were just as likely to round down as to round up (competition, you know).

However, a good man knows when he's been bested - after all, who can argue with K-Fed!? O, great and ever-present penny, O lustrous lover of Lincoln, O copper coin of commoners (or at least of posturing politicians), although the Fed has debased thy value to far less than the cost of thy production, please forgive me for ever having doubted thee.

Ha! I can't believe we both remember that argument. Clearly, it deeply affected the both of us.
